Industrial design and mechanical design

Industrial design and mechanical design are two different majors in university. Industrial design focuses on the grasp of fashion trends and consumer’s needs to design new product with innovative idea and elegant appearance to stimulate the purchase desire of consumers.  Mechanical design focuses on how to convert the ID’s design into a production feasible and cost saving design,mechanical engineer needs the knowledge of material, experience on tooling structure and making processes, experience on assembly and welding and etc.  For a new complex product, ID’s design must be very far from production and needs the mechanical to fill the gap between ID and manufacturer.
